For some dogs, a trip to the groomer takes a little convincing, but for customers of Fur So Fresh Grooming, owners say their pets cannot wait to get through the door.

The Redland Bay business has taken the top spot in this week’s Best of Redlands & Bayside Dog Groomer category, with readers praising the team’s patience, kindness and ability to send pooches home looking their best.

While owners had plenty to say about beautiful coats and freshly groomed faces, many of their fans kept returning to one thing – feeling comfortable leaving their dogs in the team’s hands.

For one customer, that meant knowing their nearly 15-year-old schmoodle would receive the patience he needed, and another praised the care given to older dogs and those who find grooming difficult.

“It’s such a relief to know they are in good hands!” one reader wrote.

Others described dogs that were excited to arrive for their appointments and came home happy, clean and ready to show off.

“My dogs get so excited to go there!” another supporter said.

A work placement in a small grooming salon changed the direction of Fur So Fresh owner Cassie Smith’s career.

She had started studying veterinary nursing but discovered she preferred helping dogs look and feel their best.

Cassie has previously shared that she bought the business five years earlier as a single mother with a one-year-old, but back then, it operated just three days a week with a small team and by June, that team had grown to five.

Readers also valued the communication that came with each visit, with one owner praising the team for noticing things about her dogs that she might otherwise have missed, describing the groomers as knowledgeable and kind.

The finished results earned enthusiastic mentions, too, from fluffy, freshly washed coats to schnauzers returning home looking and smelling their best.

Together, the nominations showed how much a good groomer can become part of a family’s routine, particularly when a dog needs a little extra love.

Owners want a lovely haircut, but they also want someone who recognises the personality and needs of the pet underneath it.

For the readers who voted Fur So Fresh into first place, that personal care was worth celebrating.

Behind every freshly trimmed face is someone’s much-loved companion, and these owners clearly felt their dogs were understood.
