THORNLANDS went country this month as the Grass Roots Bull Ride brought an afternoon and evening of bucking action, live entertainment and family fun to Pinklands Sporting Complex.
The Redlands event was held on Saturday, October 10, with gates opening at noon before the main bull-riding program got underway from 4.30pm.
Riders took on powerful bucking bulls in the headline attraction while food stalls, merchandise, bar facilities and live music helped create a festival-style atmosphere for locals and visitors.
Division 3 Councillor Paul Gollé said the event was a welcome addition to the Redlands calendar.
“It’s the sort of event that gives people an opportunity to get out, enjoy themselves and experience something different right here in our own backyard,” Cr Gollé said.
Cr Gollé said he was proud to have worked with Grass Roots Bull Ride owner and coordinator Jesse James to help bring the event to the Redlands.
“Jesse has put an enormous amount of work into building this event,” he said.
Redland City Council was among the event’s supporters as organisers worked to build the bull ride into a regular attraction for the Redlands Coast.
The event gave families, country-music fans and bull-riding followers a chance to pull on their cowboy hats and enjoy a different kind of sporting spectacle close to home.
