LAMB Island residents are preparing to bring their chairs, nibbles and singing voices to the waterfront as a month celebrating health, wellbeing and positive ageing draws to a close.

The Lamb Island Residents Association has hosted a broad program of activities throughout October, with association president Janet Cannon saying the initiative had been particularly welcomed by the island’s older population.

The month will culminate in a free “sing the sunset” gathering at Grandpa’s Beach from 4-6pm on Saturday, October 31.

Choirs from across the Southern Moreton Bay Islands will provide the entertainment, with residents encouraged to join in on familiar songs as the sun goes down over the water.

The line-up includes The Bay Island Singers Inc, Bay Island Gospel Choir, Coral Chorale, Sol-Wata Teio, SMBI Choir and Women of Karra Sing (WOKS).

Ms Cannon said the event would build on a popular island tradition.

“We usually get together for sunset and a bit of bubbly,” she said.

“We bring our own nibblies and chairs and gather for a catch-up.

“There is nothing better. The event is free and overlooks the water.

“We get together, watch the sun and all go home.

“This time, we have invited the local choirs to add that extra ambience.”

Ms Cannon said it would be the first event of its kind on Lamb Island, and she hoped it would bring people together for a relaxed and uplifting evening.

“It should be a lot of fun,” she said. “The songs the choirs will sing are ones most people know.”

Coral Chorale conductor Vicky Macdonald said she was delighted to be part of the waterfront gathering.

“I am excited to be a part of this joyous and uplifting gathering of voices in such a stunning setting,” Ms Macdonald said.

The remaining health-and-wellness activities include a bird walk leaving from the jetty at 9.15am on October 25, and an exploration of Clarkes Point on October 29, meeting at the top of Resthaven Drive at 9am.

Health forums will also be held at the Lamb Island Residents Association’s Pioneer Hall, 125–133 Lucas Drive.

They include foot health from 10-11am on October 26, brain exercises from 10am-noon on October 27, and a wellness wheel chat from 10am-12.30pm on October 28.
