REDLANDS Tigers have secured a memorable 24-run victory over Western Suburbs to claim the Graham Kersey Memorial Shield, honouring the late wicketkeeper who represented both clubs before his tragic passing.

The fixture also marked the opening round of the Queensland Premier Grade Two Day Competition, and Redlands could not have asked for a better start to the season after an impressive white ball campaign that showcased the team’s depth and form.

Batting first, Redlands compiled a competitive total of 293, with key contributions throughout the order.

Opener Sam Heazlett anchored the innings with a composed 66, while Carter Pearson added a dynamic 70, including five boundaries and three sixes, to lift the scoring rate through the middle overs.

Club stalwart Leigh Drennan added a valuable 48, combining with Pearson to build a crucial partnership that helped Redlands post a strong total despite regular wickets from Wests seamer Sam Geyer, who claimed five.

Defending 293, the Tigers bowlers executed superbly to dismiss Western Suburbs 24 runs short of the target.

Thomas Biggs (3 for 47) and Jack Jarvis (3 for 40) were the standout performers, consistently applying pressure with disciplined spells.

Lachlan McClure (2 for 34 from 16.5 overs) was equally impressive, maintaining control through the middle stages and claiming the final wicket to seal victory.

There was also a memorable moment for Ely Robertson, who made his First Grade debut as Redlands cap number 700.

Ely was lucky enough to have his cap presented by his mentor and current Queensland Bulls player James Bazley.

The annual fixture holds deep meaning for both clubs, played in memory of Graham Kersey, a talented wicketkeeper from the UK who represented Redlands Tigers and Wests during his time in Queensland.

Results across all six grades against Western Suburbs saw Redlands Walk away with three wins, one draw and two losses in a tightly contested affair.
