ONE of Redland Bay’s most popular boating and fishing jetties will close for more than two months as the State Government carries out a major maintenance program.
The Weinam Street Jetty will shut from mid-July while crews undertake repairs designed to keep the popular waterfront facility safe and operational for years to come.
The works are expected to continue until late September depending on weather and site conditions.
The maintenance program will include repairs to damaged concrete, fender piles, lighting, water taps and the replacement of mooring cleats.
The Government said the project would improve safety, preserve the long-term functionality of the jetty and ensure it continued serving the community well into the future.
The jetty is a popular launch point for recreational boaters and a favourite spot for anglers overlooking Moreton Bay.
During construction, the entire jetty will be closed to the public to allow the work to be completed safely and efficiently.
Boaties and visitors are being encouraged to use the nearby Redland City Council boat ramps and floating walkway at Weinam Creek, about 2km south of the jetty.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is also urging people on the water and around the shoreline to take extra care near the construction zone while works are underway.
