CAPALABA will light up with colour, culture and community spirit when the Diwali Festival of Lights returns on Saturday.

The free celebration will run from 3-9pm at Sam Sciacca Sports Fields, home of the Capalaba Bulldogs Football Club on Old Cleveland Rd.

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the world’s most widely celebrated festivals. Rooted in Indian traditions, it symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

The 2026 Capalaba festival will invite people of all backgrounds to experience the sights, sounds and flavours of the occasion, with a program designed for families, friends and visitors of all ages.

Food trucks will serve Indian cuisine, while multicultural clothing stalls will offer colourful fashions and handcrafted designs.

Younger festivalgoers can enjoy a dedicated fun zone featuring face painting, games and other activities.

Live entertainment will be a major drawcard, with multicultural dance performances celebrating both traditional and contemporary styles.

A traditional Indian fashion show will add another burst of colour to the afternoon program. As daylight fades, the celebration will culminate in a fireworks display over Capalaba, providing a sparkling finale to the Festival of Lights.

Organisers say the event is about more than entertainment, creating a welcoming space for the wider community to celebrate diversity, share traditions and connect through food, music and culture.

Whether visitors come for the performances, the flavours of India, the family activities or the fireworks, the Diwali Festival of Lights promises an afternoon and evening of joy, colour and community connection.
