THERE’S something special about seeing Brisbane light up for Diwali.
Across our city, homes and neighbourhoods come alive with colour, music and food as families gather to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
Diwali is a time of joy, hope and new beginnings, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
It also carries a message that rings true here in Brisbane – hope, togetherness and looking out for one another.
You’ll see that spirit in King George Square, where the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland brings thousands of people together for a spectacular celebration of music, dance and, of course, great food.
And you’ll see it in the suburbs, from the Northside to the Bayside.
Whether Diwali has been part of your family for generations or you’re joining in for the first time, there’s a place for everyone to celebrate.
With one-in-three Brisbane residents born overseas, the many cultures and traditions that make up our city are something worth celebrating.
That’s why we’re proud to support celebrations like Diwali, which bring our community together, share traditions and give everyone more to see and do.
It’s these opportunities to come together, learn from one another and celebrate all the things that help make Brisbane such a welcoming place to call home.
So as the diyas glow this Diwali, I hope you take the chance to enjoy the festivities and celebrate the people who make Brisbane shine.
Happy Diwali to you and your loved ones.
