CULTURAL celebrations are about more than a date on the calendar.

They create opportunities for neighbours to meet, families to share traditions and communities to discover what connects them.

For the Brisbane Bayside South Indian Association (BBSIA), Diwali is an invitation to bring that spirit of connection to the Redlands Coast.

Our 2026 Diwali celebration will be held on Saturday from 3-9pm at Sam Sciacca Sports Fields, Capalaba Bulldogs Football Club, on Old Cleveland Rd.

We warmly invite residents from every background to join us for an afternoon and evening of cultural celebration, friendship and family enjoyment.

Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.

Its message offers a meaningful reminder of the importance of hope, kindness and understanding in our everyday lives.

For families who celebrate Diwali, gathering provides a connection to cherished traditions.

For those experiencing it for the first time, the festival offers a welcoming opportunity to learn, ask questions and enjoy something new.

That exchange is at the heart of what BBSIA hopes to achieve.

Through music, dance, food and conversation, cultural events can turn unfamiliar traditions into shared experiences.

Children discover the heritage of their friends, neighbours find common ground, and families create memories together.

Diwali also contributes to the variety of community events that make the Redlands Coast a place where different cultures can be seen, heard and celebrated.

Our planned program includes cultural performances, music, food stalls and family-friendly activities.

We want everyone to feel welcome, whether they come to enjoy the entertainment, explore different flavours or simply spend time with friends.

Behind the celebration is the commitment of volunteers, performers, vendors and community supporters.

Their time, energy and generosity help transform an event into a genuine community gathering.

We thank everyone working with BBSIA to bring this year’s celebration together.
