REDLANDS Coast is a vibrant and welcoming community, shaped by people from many different cultures, backgrounds and experiences.
This Saturday, the Brisbane Bayside South Indian Association will once again host its Diwali Festival at Sam Sciacca Sports Fields in Capalaba.
Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is an opportunity to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness, hope over adversity, and good over evil.
It is a time for family, friendship and community, and a chance for people of all backgrounds to come together and enjoy live music and dance performances, traditional South Indian and Indian cuisine and a range of family activities.
The festival will culminate in a fireworks display.
Redland City Council is proud to support this year’s event through its sponsorship program, helping to foster community connections and celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Redlands Coast such a special place to live.
Events such as the Diwali Festival remind us that our community is strengthened by its diversity, enriched by shared experiences and united by a common sense of belonging.
Nearly one in four Redlands Coast residents were born overseas, while six in 10 have family origins outside Australia within the past three generations.
These figures highlight the rich cultural tapestry that continues to grow and thrive across our city.
Diversity is something we value here on Redlands Coast – in the workplace, on the sporting field, in our classrooms, and indeed across all aspects of life.
We live in a society where multiculturalism is celebrated year-round through festivals, cultural events and community gatherings that help to bring people together united.
