HARDWOOD Drive at Mount Cotton has taken on additional festive cheer this year thanks to 80 Christmas bows distributed by resident Pamela Jean.
Pamela said she first introduced the bows at her end of the street about four years ago and thought it would be extra special to extend the decorations.
“I made about 80 differently coloured bows from red, blue, green and yellow netting and did a letterbox drop inviting people to come and grab some. About six people came and got some,” she said. “I am an early riser, so after that I just put up the rest of the bows when I did my morning walks. It took me about three mornings to put up the rest of the bows.”
Pamela said she enjoyed seeing the colours as she drove up the street and planned on extending them next year.
“It makes me happy. And if it makes me happy, it probably makes others happy too. Sometimes life can be a bit miserable, and if this brightens up people’s day, then that’s a positive,” she said.
Pamela said she enjoyed decorating her front yard and encouraged children to take a look and make some discoveries for themselves.
“My decorations are on the outside and not on the roof. I think it’s pretty and I get great pleasure from it. I like to see the kids and their reactions. I like to see kids just being kids,” she said.
She said she had noticed that Christmas decorating had taken off in Hardwood Drive and this was what prompted her to add the bows.
She said in so doing, she felt a sense of community and a greater Christmas spirit.
“I encourage the residents to keep their bows and put them up again next year. Who knows what will happen next year. Will I be extending myself? Probably, yes,” she said.
Pamela said she was now thinking what she might do for Australia Day and later Easter and Halloween in 2025.
