THE Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club’s inaugural Leukaemia Foundation Charity Luncheon exceeded all expectations, raising a remarkable $26,000 – nearly three times its original fundraising goal.
On November 22, the club hosted its first-ever charity luncheon, raising funds and awareness to support vital care, resources, and research for those affected by leukemia and related blood disorders.
General manager Rhys Faint said the event aimed to bring the community together, showcase the club’s commitment to meaningful causes, and celebrate the collective effort of attendees, sponsors, and staff in making a positive impact.
“The community and attendees responded with overwhelming enthusiasm and generosity during the Leukemia Foundation Charity Luncheon,” Mr Faint said.
“Their engagement reflected a deep commitment to the cause and a collective desire to make a difference.”
Nearly tripling the $10,000 goal, Mr Faint hailed the $26,000 raised as an extraordinary achievement, showcasing the generosity and support of all involved.
“It signifies the power of community coming together for a shared purpose and reflects the genuine compassion and commitment of our members, sponsors, and staff,” he said.
From the moment guests arrived, they were greeted by a festive ambiance, beautifully arranged tables, a specially curated menu, live entertainment, and engaging fundraising activities.
Special guests included AFL champion Brendan Fevola, three-time Olympian and beach volleyball champion Mariafe Artacho del Solar, and former AFL player Richard Champion, who served as MC for the day.
Mr Faint highlighted several unforgettable moments, including Champion’s impromptu performance of the Australian classic song Horses on stage.
“The entire crowd joined in singing along, creating an electric and heartwarming atmosphere that united everyone in the room,” he said.
“It was a perfect example of the community coming together to celebrate and support an important cause.”
Mr Faint described the atmosphere as one of camaraderie, generosity, and celebration, showcasing the collective effort that made the event a resounding success.
“The enthusiasm and generosity displayed by attendees underscored the success of the luncheon and its importance in supporting the foundation’s mission,” he said.
