LACE up your walking shoes as Capalaba Central has launched a new Heart Foundation Walking group this month.

Starting from Monday, October 21, the Capalaba Central Mall Strutters are meeting every Monday at 7.30am, walking for up to 60 minutes, with plans to add a Thursday session once another volunteer walk organiser joins the team.

This new walking group will give residents a fun, free way to become more physically active, in a safe indoor environment.

Capalaba Central Marketing Manager Despina Grespos and Marketing Assistant Ainsley Carter have been working hard to bring this to fruition.

“We are so excited to introduce our new walking group, the Capalaba Central Mall Stutters, to our community,” Ms Grespos said.

“This initiative will give our customers the opportunity to socialise on the move in a safe, cool environment just in time for summer.”

With over 45,000 active walkers across Australia, the Heart Foundation Walking program features groups of all sizes, schedules, distances, and paces, encouraging everyone to walk at their own speed.

Each group is led by a volunteer walk organiser, who coordinates the routes, and timings, and serves as the main contact, helping to keep the community of walkers connected and engaged.

Heart Foundation senior advisor for physical activity Elizabeth Calleja encouraged people living in the Capalaba area to join the Capalaba Central Mall Strutters.

“There are many health benefits of regular exercise, and participating in a walking group is also a great way to socialise and meet new people,” Ms Calleja said.

“Heart Foundation Walking is fun, free and easy – so why not give it a try?”

The Capalaba Central Mall Strutters are an all-abilities group for all ages, so bring your wheelie walkers, prams, guide dogs or your support person!
