REDLANDS triathletes have shown plenty of endurance, heart and club spirit at the Port Macquarie Ironman with 12 of 14 Sharkies competitors making it across the finish line.
Cr Peter Mitchell completed his fifth Port Mac Ironman and seventh Ironman event overall, placing sixth in the men’s 60-64 age group.
“It was a great day personally,” Cr Mitchell said.
“I turned back the clock with a sixth place in the 60-64 year-old age group.”
Among the standout local performances was Emma Cahill, who excelled in her first Ironman while honouring her father, Rich.
“Emma finished strong in her first Ironman, honouring her dad as intended,” Cr Mitchell said.
Vision-impaired triathlete Dean Cameron and his guide Ted Britt were also among the Sharkies athletes to complete the gruelling event.
Cr Mitchell said the course produced stories of struggle, grit and success, with some competitors battling through physical setbacks to finish.
Sharkies president Kris Shepherd was one of those who dug deep, completing the race despite becoming ill and vomiting on course.
Other Redlands competitors from M5 and Redlands Multisport also recorded strong results.
Cr Mitchell said the event highlighted the respect and camaraderie shared between the Redlands clubs.
“There was great camaraderie, support and respect across all the Redlands clubs represented,” he said.
