A FREE, family-friendly fun day packed with activities and outdoor adventures will headline the opening weekend of Redlands Coast AdventureFest in May.
Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the AdventureFest Fun Day on Saturday 16 May would form part of a city-wide celebration featuring more than 100 events across 10 days from May 15 to 24.
“The packed program of more than 100 experiences means there really is an adventure for everyone, whether you’re seeking events that get your heart racing, allow you to immerse yourself in nature, restore your soul or unleash your inner artist,” the Mayor said.
The free event will run from 11am to 4pm at Raby Bay Harbour Park in Cleveland and is expected to draw families from across the region.
“It will include adventure sports demonstrations including a jetpack water show, interactive and wildlife displays, emergency service displays, live music, information stalls and food trucks,” Cr Mitchell said.
“For those wanting to immerse themselves in adventures, there will be a rock climbing wall and obstacle course, circus activities, mini golf, face painting and messy play.”
The broader Redlands Coast AdventureFest program will see venues across the city come alive, including Redland Art Gallery, Redland City Libraries, Redlands IndigiScapes Centre and Redland Performing Arts Centre.
Highlights include workshops by Quandamooka artist Dean Biŋkin Tyson as part of his Create Exchange: Painted Up exhibition at Redland Art Gallery in Cleveland, guided walks to King Island with Ranger Stacey, and an Environment and Community Fair and Eco Markets at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre.
Music lovers can relive the sounds of the Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison at Redland Performing Arts Centre, while history enthusiasts can explore tales of shipwrecks, sharks and Spanish treasure at a Local History: Maritime Misadventures presentation at Cleveland Library.
Libraries across the mainland will also host creative sessions, from finger knitting and stop-motion animation to mandala stone art and miniature seaside painting, alongside themed AdventureFest story times for younger residents.
A range of major community and sporting events will also feature across the festival period, including the Straddie Salute Triathlon Festival, Redlands Mountain Bike Rumble, Scenic Boat Cruise Experience, Ormiston House After Dark and the Haunted Redlands Ghost Bus Tour, culminating in the Bayview Blast on May 24.
Mayor Mitchell said the festival was designed to showcase the diversity of experiences available across Redlands Coast while encouraging residents and visitors to get out and explore.
