REDLANDS Cricket will make history this month when Peter Burge Oval hosts its first match under lights.

The Redlands Tigers will face Northern Suburbs in the opening round of the KFC T20 Max competition at Wellington Point on Friday, August 21.

An official lights-on ceremony will be held at 5.15pm before the inaugural day-night match begins at 6.15pm.

The installation of competition-standard lighting follows years of planning, advocacy and investment and is expected to open the oval to more premier cricket, women’s cricket, junior pathway matches and major sporting events.

Redlands Cricket president Sean Lloyd said the project represented a significant milestone for the club and the wider community.

“As President of Redlands Cricket and the Redlands Tigers, I am immensely proud of what this project will mean for current and future generations of cricketers,” he said.

The ceremony will also recognise the people and organisations who helped deliver the lighting project and showcase Peter Burge Oval as one of the Redlands Coast’s premier sporting venues.

Invited guests include Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell or a Redland City Council representative, Division 1 Councillor Wendy Boglary, Federal Member for Bowman Henry Pike, State Member for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker and Queensland Cricket Chief Executive Terry Svenson.

The historic fixture will be the first of four KFC T20 Max home matches to be played by the Tigers under lights at Peter Burge Oval.
