REDLANDS Coast skaters, scooter riders and BMX fans are being urged to help shape the future of the city’s skateparks, with a free school holiday clinic led by professional skateboarder Tommy Fynn among the opportunities to have a say.

Redland City Council’s Rolling in Redlands Coast consultation is open until October 22 and will feed into a new long-term strategy for skateparks across the city.

Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the process was aimed at everyone from committed riders and competitive skaters to parents, carers and residents who use the parks as community spaces.

A youth-focused coaching clinic will be held at Mount Cotton Community Park on Saturday, October 3, with Mr Fynn and a second qualified coach.

“This is an exciting opportunity for families and young skate enthusiasts,” Cr Talty said.

Residents can also attend feedback sessions at Wellington Point and Redland Bay or complete an online survey.

Sport and Recreation portfolio representative Cr Jason Colley said skateparks were increasingly important places for young people to be active, socialise and develop their skills.

“This project recognises the growing popularity of sports such as skateboarding and the important role that skateparks play as community spaces,” he said.

Council wants feedback on how often people use skateparks, the state of existing facilities, how riders get there and what they want to see built or improved in the years ahead.

Registrations are essential for the free Mount Cotton clinic.

Details of the sessions and survey are available at Council’s Your Say page.
