THE voices of Redlands will be heard on the national stage this week as the Redland City Show Choir heads to Tasmania to perform at one of Australia’s premier choral events.
The choir is one of only two Queensland ensembles selected to perform at the prestigious Festival of Voices, joining more than 80 choirs from across the country.
Redland City Choir president Judy Butler said the opportunity was about far more than performing.
“Festival of Voices is one of Australia’s premier singing festivals and provides an incredible opportunity for our singers to perform, participate in workshops and learn from some of the country’s leading vocal practitioners,” she said.
“We are proud to represent Redland City and look forward to bringing new skills, ideas and inspiration back home to share with our wider choir community.”
The Redland City Show Choir is an auditioned ensemble drawn from the more than 90 members of the Redland City Choir, which is based at the Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC).
The group will not only perform during the festival but also take part in workshops and professional development sessions with some of Australia’s leading vocal experts.
The trip has been supported by the Redland Performing Arts Centre and funding through Redland City Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
After returning home, choir members will share what they have learned through workshops and collaborative rehearsals with the wider Redland City Choir, ensuring the experience benefits the broader organisation.
Established as the city’s first community choir, the Redland City Choir continues to provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy the social, health and wellbeing benefits of singing together while promoting community connection and cultural participation across the Redlands.
