A lifelong love of musicals has turned full circle for Mary Veitch, 41, of Macleay Island who has landed her dream role in The Music Man, being staged by Savoyards from September 23 to October 7.

Mary plays the role of the Mayor’s wife and self-important leader of the lady’s auxiliary Eulalie Shinn.

“It’s a comedic role – my kind of role and a part I have wanted to play for ages,” she said.

Mary said she had watched musicals since she was a young girl and was lucky that her parents took her to lots of live shows while she was growing up in Townsville.

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band.

His intention is to leave town with the cash. But instead he falls for the librarian Marian who transforms him into respectability.

The show will be staged at Iona Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are $52, $48, $46 (groups) and $30 for school students. See show times and book on trybooking.com.
