Colour My Pot has been voted Best Kids Activity by our readers, but if you ask owner Elle and Rory Stewart, the win belongs to “kids of all ages”, including the adults who walk in insisting they’re not creative, and leave grinning like they’ve rediscovered recess.

“We don’t believe creativity has an age limit,” Elle said.

“Some of our biggest kids are the adults who end up having more fun than the children.”

It’s a philosophy that sits at the heart of the Wellington Point studio, where toddlers, teens, parents and grandparents all share the same invitation to simply give it a go.

Rather than structured lessons or identical outcomes, Colour My Pot leans into a play-based model built around meeting people where they are.

“I genuinely believe everyone is already an artist,” Elle said. “We just provide the space, tools and opportunities for them to discover how to show it.”

That approach has shaped the studio into one of the Redlands Coast’s most inclusive creative spaces.

Some visitors arrive bursting with ideas, others need gentle encouragement, and some simply want a quiet moment to see what happens when they pick up a paintbrush.

“All of those experiences are equally valuable,” Elle said.

“We’re not trying to produce 20 identical masterpieces. We’re helping 20 different artists express themselves in 20 different ways.”

Community feedback plays a major role in keeping things fresh, from new techniques and clay workshops to collaborations with schools and local groups.

Their work with Montessori students, for example, has grown from a simple pottery project into hands on lessons in science, maths, teamwork and entrepreneurship.

And if you need moral support, the shop’s greyhound, Mary, has you covered.

If you need quiet encouragement, she’ll be right here. Probably asleep, but definitely on duty.

As locals raising their own family on the Redlands Coast, Elle said the studio’s connection to community was personal, “This isn’t just where we do business, it’s home.”

Because we love a good hands-on story, I’ll be heading in to give Colour My Pot a try myself, so keep an eye on our social media for the video, looks like the biggest kid in the room might end up being me!
