TWO new social housing developments in Alexandra Hills and Wellington Point are nearing completion, marking significant progress under the Queensland Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan.

Together, the projects will deliver 43 new homes to the Redlands community, providing safe, modern accommodation for people in need and supporting local construction jobs.

At Wellington Point, the development includes 17 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom units, while the Alexandra Hills site will deliver 20 one-bedroom homes. The Alexandra Hills build is jointly funded with the Australian Government through the Social Housing Accelerator Program – a national partnership aimed at fast-tracking construction and increasing the supply of affordable housing.

The new homes are designed to meet the needs of smaller households and help long-term tenants downsize into more suitable accommodation, freeing up larger properties for families on the social housing waiting list.

Announced in August 2024, both projects are part of the state’s broader effort to expand housing options and reduce pressure on Queensland’s rental market.

Then Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon said the plan was focused on “getting more shovels in the ground and tradies on the tools to build the homes Queenslanders need”.

For the Redlands, these developments represent more than new buildings – they provide security, dignity and stability for residents, while reinforcing the importance of continued investment and collaboration between all levels of government.
