A replica of a purpose-built building to house the U3A office and some classrooms forms part of the display celebrating the 25th anniversary of the group at the Redland Museum.

U3A President Janese Lowe said the building was highly anticipated and she hoped to turn the first sod at the end of this year or the beginning of 2024.

The 100-square-metre building will be built in the grounds of the Redland Research facility at Delancy Street.

Ms Lowe said it would be a big step forward for the U3A to have its own building with its own pedestrian and car access.

It is being built with U3A savings, including a $60,000 Redland City Council grant.

She said U3A used about 30 different venues for its various classes and not all could be accommodated in the new building, but she hoped the academic and language classes would be.

“It will also be a place for committee meetings and we hope to alternate classes there on a roster,” she said.

Ms Lowe said to date, the U3A had used F5 as its office at Cleveland District State High School, rooms at the Capalaba library and earlier, a room at Hub 68.

“The new building will give us a central place and a community feel,” she said.

The current anniversary exhibition runs at the museum until July 31 with dynamic displays on July 13, 17 and 25.
