A THORNESIDE man has been charged over a string of alleged copper thefts in Hemmant.

Police are also investigating a serious head-on crash at Cornubia that left a Shailer Park man fighting for his life, and are appealing for help to identify a driver following an alleged hit-and-run at Victoria Point.

Police allege a 50-year-old Thorneside man targeted a business on Anton Rd, Hemmant, on seven occasions between September 2025 and June 2026, stealing copper wiring before allegedly selling it to another business.

He has been charged with 30 offences, including 10 counts of entering premises and committing an indictable offence, six counts of fraud involving refunds for stolen goods, five counts of stealing and other related offences.

He was remanded in custody and was due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on July 2.

Meanwhile, the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a serious two-vehicle collision on Wuduru Rd at Cornubia about 10.45pm on June 30.

Police allege a silver Toyota Camry travelling east collided with a white Haval Jolion travelling in the opposite direction.

The 32-year-old Shailer Park man driving the Toyota suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, while the 18-year-old Mount Cotton man driving the Haval sustained minor injuries and was also transported to hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the crash to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers, quoting reference QP2601272062.

In a separate incident, police are also appealing for public assistance following an alleged hit-and-run crash at a shopping centre on Colburn Ave, Victoria Point, about 10.20am on June 14.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers – QP2601155755.
