FOR fans of Pink Floyd, the chance to experience their music live is a rare treat.
Enter Echoes of Pink Floyd, one of Australia’s premier tribute bands, led by frontman Matt Goodluck.
With more than a decade of performing with the tribute group, he has perfected the delicate balance of honouring the originals while making each performance feel alive and immersive.
His journey into music started later than most.
A lifelong music obsessive, he only began performing in his early 30s, overcoming the nerves that had kept him off stage.
“I just didn’t have the confidence to get on stage. Eventually I pushed through that fear and started out playing with friends in local Adelaide pub bands,” Goodluck said.
A successful audition for the Pink Floyd tribute group set him on a path that has lasted 11 years and counting.
Known for his vocals that naturally sit between David Gilmour and Roger Waters, Goodluck brings both precision and passion to every song.
“I’ve always tried to nail the vocal tones as close as possible to the originals, because that’s what most audiences lock into,” he said.
The band also shares vocal duties to ensure each part is delivered perfectly while fans can expect a full Pink Floyd experience when they see Echoes live.
“We put a lot into the visuals. We have a huge video screen with custom content for each song, plus lighting that mirrors the scale of a Floyd show,” Goodluck said.
Their current tour celebrates 60 years of Pink Floyd, covering everything from Syd Barrett’s psychedelic beginnings to the iconic anthems of the 80s and 90s.
“Fans can expect the hits, but also some deeper cuts for the hardcore Floyd fans,” he said.
Goodluck reflects on the most important lesson he’s learned after years on stage.
“Audiences want to see you enjoying yourself,” he said.
“At the end of the day, we’re playing music – it’s supposed to be fun.
“The privilege is making people feel good, and that’s the most important thing.”
For anyone who’s never seen Pink Floyd live – or longs to relive the experience – Echoes of Pink Floyd delivers a performance as close to the originals as it gets.
The group plays Redland Performing Arts Centre on Friday night with the show starting at 8pm.
