REDLANDERS are being invited to have their say on the future of Southern Thornlands, with public consultation now open for Stage 1 of the Southern Thornlands Priority Development Area (PDA).
Assistant Minister for Housing, Planning and Better Regulation and State Member for Redlands Rebecca Young said community input would play a central role in shaping the 20-year vision for the area.
“Stage 1 will set the stage for the future of Southern Thornlands, and it’s vital that the community has a voice in this process,” Mrs Young said. “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to plan new housing, roads, and infrastructure the right way – with local needs front and centre.”
This application seeks a Preliminary Approval for Precinct 1 within the Southern Thornlands PDA.
The approval will establish the distribution of land uses, indicative infrastructure layout, and key structural elements for the precinct.
It is the first step in enabling early development within the PDA.
Stage 1, set to begin in early 2026, will deliver 900 new homes, with 20 per cent earmarked for social and affordable housing.
It will also include a $4 million upgrade to the Springacre Rd/Boundary Rd intersection and will benefit from the Queensland Government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund, which is designed to provide essential infrastructure such as roads, water, sewerage and power.
Mrs Young said the planning process would ensure the long-term plan reflects the community’s priorities.
“Whether you care about housing affordability, green space, or local services, your feedback will help make sure Southern Thornlands grows in a way that works for our community, both now and for future generations,” she said.
Residents are invited to view the application and make a submission during the notification period, which closes on Friday, 3 October 2025.
