REDLANDS is set to benefit from a major State Budget boost, with the Queensland Government committing $1.6 billion to employment and training initiatives across the state.

Among the key announcements was the continuation of the Regional Jobs Committee (RJC) program for a further two years – welcome news for Redlands and other communities focused on workforce planning and industry engagement.

The Redlands RJC, which brings together education providers, employers and community leaders to tackle local workforce challenges, has also secured a three-month extension on its current contract.

This extension will allow for discussions with the department in the coming weeks to clarify the program’s future under the new State Government, and whether the Redlands Chamber of Commerce will continue as the contract holder.

The Redlands RJC has been pivotal in addressing skills shortages and aligning training opportunities with local employer needs.

The renewed investment signals continued support for this collaborative, place-based model.
Other Budget highlights include:

  • $40 million to train the tradies of tomorrow
  • $10 million to extend Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s
  • $120 million for job-ready programs such as Skilling Queenslanders for Work and Back to Work
  • $201.1 million for new TAFE Centres of Excellence, including one for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands

The continued recognition and funding of the RJC model provide a solid foundation for Redlands to build workforce resilience and support economic growth into the future.
