WYNNUM Wolves FC has confirmed that Head Coach Graham Fyfe and Assistant Coach Danny Byrne have stepped down from their roles, effective immediately.

The pair’s sudden departure was extra surprising as it followed a thumping 6-2 hammering of Sunshine Coast Wanderers in what many observers said was the Wolves’ best performance of the season to date.

In a statement posted on social media, the club said: “The club would like to confirm that Head Coach Graham Fyfe and Assistant Coach Danny Byrne have stepped down, effective immediately.

“The club is disappointed but respects their decision.”

The news has prompted an outpouring of support from fans, with many surprised by the sudden announcement and quick to acknowledge Fyfe’s success and influence.

Kylie Baldwin summed up the sentiments of many supporters: “Well someone has stuffed up here. Graham Fyfe wouldn’t just step down. Best coach in the NPL deserves all the respect.”

Long-time supporters took to social media to share their admiration.

Emma Harton-Carter declared: “You won’t find a better coach in Brisbane,” while Arline Warden described the news as “a huge loss to Wolves FC”.

There was also widespread praise for Fyfe’s achievements in taking the club to new heights.

Sean Curtis reflected: “From FQPL 2 to NPL in 2 years. Not bad. Onwards and upwards Fyfe,” and Noel Dcruz wrote:

“Fyfe is one of the best coaches in Brisbane and a good personality. Very humble person.”

Amid the tributes, speculation quickly turned to Fyfe’s next move, with rumours swirling about a possible role with A-League side Brisbane Roar FC.

However, Lizzie Fyfe, responding to several comments, firmly denied the speculation:

“Nothing to do with another club,” and “nothing to do with family” … “we have always and will always support him in his football”.

The club is expecting to field strong interest from high-profile candidates for one of the state’s top coaching jobs.

Football Director Richard Greer has agreed to step up and coach the men’s first team in the interim.
