A BAYSIDE mother is receiving overwhelming support from the community following the tragic loss of her husband and young son in an Australia Day crash.

Chris Vrbesic, 37, and his four-year-old son, Julian, tragically lost their lives on January 26 when their classic Holden Commodore collided with another vehicle at an intersection in Ransome.

Chris died at the scene, while Julian was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital but succumbed to his injuries later.

The crash has left Maria Vrbesic to navigate life without her husband and son while caring for their two other children, Myla and Vinnie.

In response to the heartache, family friend Brittany Claxton, from Lota, launched a GoFundMe campaign to provide financial relief during this difficult time.

The campaign has far exceeded expectations, surpassing its $200,000 target.

By Tuesday, the fundraiser had reached more than $250,000.

“Chris inspired so many to live their life and follow their dreams – as he did,” Ms Claxton wrote.

“He brought people together with his passion for cars and cruising.

“If you had the privilege to know this man – you know he was an incredibly loving dad, supportive husband, loving son, grandson, big brother and a friend to so many.

“He was always smiling, cracking sarcastic jokes and ALWAYS lending a helping hand.

“The way he lived his life full of joy, passion and drive was admirable and we should all be inspired to live the same, in honour of him.”

Julian, affectionately known as “Juju”, was remembered as a lively and spirited boy with an infectious sense of humour.

“Julian was so full of life, and he loved his Tata (dad) so much,” Ms Claxton wrote.

“The pair had an unbreakable bond and his Mumma realised they were just destined to be together forever.

“Juju that cheeky grin and even cheekier laugh will stick with us all forever.

“It will be the light that guides us all.”
