The first week of December was big for the Brisbane River, with 14,400 Mary River Cod fingerlings released into the upper reaches.

These robust fingerlings are part of the Brisbane River Cod Recovery Strategy led by Somerset & Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Assn, which aims to restore the ecological balance into our waterways.

The fingerlings were released across 42 sites near Linville and Fernvale, where lush riverbank vegetation can provide food, shade and nesting habitat so these little guys can have a great start in life.

With more releases lined up this season, we’re on the way to thriving freshwater fisheries!
