MORE than 100 FX-FJ Holdens are expected to be on display at the Cleveland showgrounds from December 28 to 31 for the 26th nationals.

Among them will be a mini 1954 FJ Holden, owned by Shane Krueger of Ormiston as well as a number of other Redland-based cars.

Shane said his was a modified Holden in black with orange flames.

“I bought it because represents a childhood memory – a memory of the panel van Dad used to have,” he said.

“Us five kids would go in the back and travel up the Sunshine Coast. When I saw this one, I bought it and built it up. It was just a rolling shell back in 2000, and in 2008 I took it to the nationals at Beenleigh.”

The FX Holden was the very first model Holden from 1948 to 1953, when it was replaced by the iconic FJ Holden. Almost 170,000 FJ Holdens were manufactured from 1953-1956.

“Today, more than 70 years later, they have a real cult following across the generations,” Shane said.

A national gathering of what are now historic cars has been held every two years since 1977, with this year’s gathering a first for the Redlands.

“We are expecting 100- plus FXs and FJs from all over Australia on the main oval, including the iconic Rock ‘n Roll George FX Holden tribute,” Shane said.

“We have invited 50-plus car clubs in SEQ to display their classic/vintage/muscle cars on the adjoining field.”

He said scrutineering of the cars would take place at Ormiston House on Saturday, December 28.

The highlight promises to be the Show and Shine from 9am-3pm on Sunday, December 29.

In addition to food trucks and trade stalls, Lloyds will be auctioning a Holden (no reserve) at the Show ‘n Shine.
