The Redland Bay State School Parents and Citizens (P&C) are continuing to provide a breakfast program to less fortunate students and have thanked all of the community organisations that assist in funding the program.

The RBSS P&C Breakfast Club program was expanded from one day per week during the school term to three, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at the start of Term 3 in 2023.

Glenn Barlow, acting President of the Redland Bay State School P&C said the program was founded on a ‘no questions asked’ ethos and is open to all students to ensure they have some food in their stomachs to get through the day.

“We have the full support of our Principal Alan Bunce,” he said.

“We found when we expanded the breakfast club from what was one day a week [on Mondays] to the current three days… the needs increased ten fold.”

The P&C Breakfast Club has estimated that 100 loaves of bread, 20 kilograms of butter, 360 litres of milk, fresh fruit including apples, celery, capsicum, tomatoes, oranges, muesli bars and milo are used every fortnight to feed the students.

“Without the ongoing support of local businesses and community organisations, the Cage Youth Foundation, YMCA Breakfast Program, Shore Hope Church, Member for Redlands Kim Richards, Skippy’s Fresh Frootz, we as a P&C and School would not be able to run programs like the Breakfast Club,” Mr Barlow said.

“We also have amazing support from parents and carers in the community who just randomly donate items to the breakfast club program.”

The Breakfast Club is run through a team of volunteers including the Cage Youth Foundation, Shore Hope Church and parents of students.

“What we are finding is that with the products that the YMCA kindly provide, we have a shortfall in milk and butter and other bits and pieces, and that is where our wonderful community donate extras,” Mr Barlow said.

“The breakfast club does rely heavily on the generosity and amazing show of support from local businesses and giving back to our amazing community.”

The RBSS P&C welcomes any organisation or business that would like to help the Breakfast Club program and any support would be gratefully received by the whole school community.
