BRISBANE’S skies will burst into colour this Sunday when the Brisbane Kite Festival returns to Minnippi Parklands for a free family day of entertainment.

The festival will be held at the Tingalpa Model Aero Club from 10am to 3pm on August 23, with professional kite-flying displays, a magic show, rides, a children’s area and food trucks among the attractions.

Organised by the Rotary Clubs of Brisbane South-East and Carindale, the annual event brings families, friends and neighbours together for an affordable day outdoors.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the festival reflected the value of community events in Brisbane’s suburbs.

“The Brisbane Kite Festival is a fantastic example of the community events that bring our suburbs to life and give families, friends and neighbours more to see and do,” he said.

“Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital and events like this are about enjoying the great outdoors, connecting with our community and making memories close to home.”

Doboy Ward Councillor Lisa Atwood said the festival was a much-loved local event made possible by volunteers.

“Events like this don’t happen without dedicated local volunteers, and I want to thank and congratulate the Rotary Clubs of Brisbane South-East and Carindale for once again creating such a fantastic day for everyone to enjoy,” Cr Atwood said.

“I encourage everyone to bring along a picnic rug, invite their family and friends and enjoy a fantastic free day out in our suburbs.”

The venue is wheelchair accessible and on-site parking will be available, though organisers warn spaces are expected to fill quickly. Visitors can also consider parking on Kate Street and Preston Road at Carina.

The Brisbane Kite Festival is sponsored by Vuly and RE/MAX Results – Morningside, with support from Brisbane City Council.
