PERHAPS, there was simply just no interest, or could it be that no one else thought they had a chance against these two. In any case, it’s celebration time for two of Redland City Council’s candidates who have been re-elected for the 2020-24 term following an unopposed nomination by noon on February 13.

The returning councillors are Wendy Boglary, representing Division 1 and entering her fourth term, and Division 10’s Paul Bishop, beginning his third term as an elected member.

Cr Boglary thanked Division 1 through a Facebook post, and celebrating the announcement, said the news was overwhelming.

“I am so very grateful and have no words to express what having your trust means to me,” she said.

“My passion for Ormiston/Wellington Point, and the whole of Redlands has only grown over the years, and I give you my word that I will remain 110 per cent committed to our community.

“Cr Paul Bishop also is uncontested, and we happened to bump into each other in the Village where we celebrated with a ginger beer and a chocolate éclair.”

Cr Bishop also conveyed his thank you to Division 10 through Facebook and recognised all the volunteers who assisted in his campaigning.

“Huge thanks and appreciation to the many kind and generous volunteers who have assisted with handing out flyers, hosting signs, garnering support and encouraging meaningful conversations,” he said.

“It’s not a simple job, and the work of community engagement is endless and ongoing.

“Please focus on your Mayoral Candidates, choose wisely and I will be working by your side.”

The remaining eight divisions have at minimum two candidates campaigning for the vacant seats, including Divisions 3 and 7 with three options for voting.

In the case of three councillors, voters are advised to nominate their first and second preferences.

Divisions 1 and 10 will not be required to vote for a councillor but will still vote for the Redland City Council Mayor.A
