The Redland Coast Art Society is celebrating a year of operation as they plan on moving in to a new space in Capalaba and prepare for their first self-contained gallery exhibition.
Art Society President, Gloria Dietz-Kiebron said that she and the members were looking forward to setting up the new space and showing off the skills of local Redlands artists of all mediums.
“Our tutors are professional and teach all mediums such as acrylic, oil, drawing, pastel, charcoal and photography,” Ms Dietz-Kiebron said.
“We may have a budding Aussie Picasso, Turner or Vermeer on the horizon.”
The Redland Coast Art Society was formed to fill a need in the Capalaba community and provides a safe and welcoming environment to everyone on the scale of budding artist to professional to learn, create and display.
“In the Capalaba area, myself and a few other members felt that there was more possibility for people, local artists and all that sort of thing and residents,” Ms Dietz-Kiebron said.
“We are getting a good reception from people down in Capalaba and are already running classes on Monday and Tuesday and also have groups in painting plein air and portraiture.
“We have got about three professional tutors.”
Ms Dietz-Kiebron said she was grateful to the commitment and support from the Art Society’s tutors, James Murray (oil/acrylic), Jorgen De Voss (silversmithing), Kat Christensen (drawing/charcoal) and Robin Wilson (acrylic/pen/wash).
“Myself and a few friends knew that this was something our area needed and we are happy to have quite a few members who really enjoy coming and creating some art,” Ms Dietz-Kiebron said.
“We were hiring the Anglican Church Hall up in Cleveland for about six months, and recently, we acquired keys to this venue down at Capalaba,” Dietz-Kiebron said.
“We are at 53 Mt Cotton Road, in Memorial Park.”
Ms Dietz-Kiebron said the new home for the Art Society required a bit of fixing up but provided space for learning and a larger room fit for an exhibition.
“It’s a venue the Redland City Council gave to us and we are tidying up the big room for a gallery space, and that’s the thing we’re wanting to do,” Ms Dietz-Kiebron said.
“It is where we can hold exhibitions, workshops as well, and have all those sorts of functions for people in the area… it is great.”
The Redlands Coast Art Society has plans to host the venue’s debut gallery exhibition in March in conjunction with a opening ceremony for the fixed up building.
