The Alexandra Hills Australian Football Club has farewelled their successful 2023 season in style as they gathered for their annual awards night.

The local club recently celebrated the successes of the season at the Redlands Sporting Club for a night of speeches, awards and a reflection on the year.

President Mick Bloye said it was great to have everyone from the club there and to celebrate such a terrific season.

“It was a really great night to look back on such a great season and thank vital members of the club,” he said.

“The previous few years have been challenging with COVID shortened seasons and ground closures due to the weather, so it’s been great to have an uninterrupted season.”

Memorable awards included an iconic brother duo Lachlan and Jordan Reilly who were awarded medallions for playing 200 senior games.

Lachlan McKean ended his 2023 season by securing the Senior Best and Fairest award for the third time.

Ella Blake also won the Women’s Best and Fairest and Jarrad Pannam won the Reserves Best and Fairest.

This season, the Alexandra Hills AFC seniors team made history after being crowned the premiers for the first time in nearly 30 years after a 49-40 win over Kenmore Bears.

Bloye said another highlight of the season was player Ben Murray being named the lead goalkicker for the league with Ben Bisset coming in as runner-up.

“It was great to have two of our players secure the top spots,” Bloye said.

He said that other highlights included reserves making the finals, the U15 boys premiership win and the new faces that joined the club’s women’s side.

“Even though the women’s side didn’t make finals, for a group of new girls to AFL, the improvement during the season was absolutely outstanding,” Bloye said.

“That was definitely a highlight of the season, and we are hoping the numbers will continue to increase.”

Bloye said the junior programs at the club were constantly growing and had been named one of the biggest junior AFL clubs in Brisbane.

“We have also been told that in our Auskick program, we have the greatest number of girls in any club in Queensland,” he said.

Bloye said that he was looking forward to another good season with registrations opening in November.
