THORNESIDE football is set for a brighter future after Mooroondu Sports and Recreation Club secured more than $164,000 for a major lighting upgrade.
State Member for Capalaba Russell Field announced the club would receive $164,193 through Round 2 of the State Government’s Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program.
The funding is expected to boost football at the Thorneside club, with improved lighting designed to support its players and future growth.
“This is a great result for the Capalaba electorate and the local sporting clubs that bring our communities together,” Mr Field said.
“Games On! is delivering real benefits for local communities by investing in the facilities clubs need to grow and thrive.”
Mooroondu is one of 72 clubs sharing in a $30 million statewide funding round, backing projects across sports including netball, gymnastics, football and cricket.
The money will help deliver and upgrade changerooms, courts, grandstands and lighting at grassroots venues across Queensland.
State Sport and Racing Minister Tim Mander said the program was ensuring local clubs shared in the benefits flowing from the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“Games On! is delivering real benefits for sporting clubs, athletes and communities right across the State,” Mr Mander said.
“This $30 million boost will support another 72 clubs and build on the projects already underway right across Queensland from Cairns to Currumbin.
“The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland the home of sport in Australia by investing in the facilities our clubs need today and delivering a legacy that will serve Queenslanders for generations to come.”
There are already 119 Games On! projects being delivered across Queensland, with 40 complete and another 79 underway.
Mr Mander said the program was about more than elite sport.
“Through Games On! we’re making sure grassroots clubs and communities share in the benefits of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he said.
