BAYSIDE families can dive into a new round of learn-to-swim savings with up to $150 available for eligible children aged under five.
Applications are now open for the State Government’s Play On! Learn to Swim vouchers, designed to help parents, carers and guardians cover the cost of lessons with registered providers.
Eligible families can receive one voucher per child aged from zero to four in each financial year, helping little ones gain confidence in the pool while learning vital water safety skills.
State Member for Redlands Rebecca Young said the initiative was particularly important for families in a coastal community where swimming and water activities were part of everyday life.
“Living on the Redlands Coast, we’re surrounded by beautiful beaches, waterways and the Bay, so helping our children develop confidence and safety skills around water from an early age is incredibly important,” Mrs Young said.
“Swimming lessons are an investment in our children’s safety, but we know the cost can add up for young families, particularly with other household expenses.
“These vouchers provide practical relief while helping ensure more local children have the opportunity to learn skills that could one day save their life.
“Whether it’s enjoying our local pools, heading to the beach or spending a day out on the Bay, I want our youngest Redlanders to grow up confident and safe around water.”
More than 7500 vouchers were redeemed across Queensland last financial year, with 40 per cent used by families in regional areas.
Mrs Young encouraged eligible families to take advantage of the program ahead of summer.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to swim, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances,” she said.
“With summer just around the corner, now is a great time for Redlands parents to get their little ones into swimming lessons.”
The vouchers form part of Queensland Spirit: The Road to 2032, the State Government’s plan to build a sporting legacy ahead of the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Government said the program would deliver cost-of-living relief while making grassroots sport and recreation more accessible for young Queenslanders.
Families with a valid Health Care or Concession Card can apply for one voucher per eligible child each financial year.
Applications close on June 11, 2027, unless funding is exhausted earlier.
Parents and carers can check eligibility and apply for a voucher at qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/learntoswim.
Providers can also register through the website.
