A WAVE of string-focused concerts is heading to the region, giving locals the opportunity to experience chamber masterpieces and modern acoustic performances without travelling beyond their own community.

At the Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) this weekend, Camerata, Queensland’s chamber orchestra, will present Old. New. Borrowed. Blue., a program designed to showcase the versatility of strings across eras and genres.

Featuring internationally acclaimed pianist and harpsichordist Anthony Romaniuk, the concert blends baroque works with modern compositions and even jazz inspired pieces.

RPAC staff say Camerata’s return is always welcomed by locals who appreciate high-calibre classical music close to home, and this year’s program promises an especially eclectic mix.

For audiences seeking a more intimate experience this weekend, acoustic duo Mundy Turner will perform in the region as part of their ongoing tour.

Known for their warm harmonies, intricate guitar work and storytelling style, the pair’s concerts often feel more like a gathering than a performance.

Later in the year, the Orava Quartet, Camerata’s Quartet in Residence for the past decade, will bring an electrifying chamber program to RPAC.

Renowned for their interpretive insight and emotional precision, the quartet will perform Haydn’s String Quartet in D major, Janacek’s dramatic Kreutzer Sonata, and Mendelssohn’s fervent String Quartet in A minor.

Audiences will be seated on stage with the musicians, creating an unusually immersive experience where every phrase, gesture and breath can be felt up close.

Local classical fans say opportunities to hear world- class chamber music in such an intimate setting are rare, and the Orava Quartet’s return is already generating excitement.

Together, these concerts highlight a growing appetite for string-centred performances across the region, with venues continuing to attract top musicians.
