IT’S all about connection for Toni Childs, who promises an intimate “conversation” with audiences when she brings her Retrospective tour to the Redland Performing Arts Centre on August 7.
The Emmy-winning and three-time Grammy-nominated recording artist will take audiences on a musical journey spanning her celebrated career during the show, which begins at 7.30pm.
The first half will feature fan favourites from her albums Union, House of Hope, The Woman’s Boat and Keep the Faith, accompanied by stories behind the music.
After interval, Childs will introduce audiences to new material from It’s All a Beautiful Noise and Citizens of the Planet.
“This is a chronology of this artist’s work – a chocolate box of memories,” Childs said. “And like that box, some are bittersweet.
“Big decisions are often connected to a song. This concert traverses that emotional landscape.
“My feedback has been that these connections resonate with people.”
Childs said she hoped some of the songs would serve as “love pollinators” during a period of global uncertainty.
“These songs come at a time when there is crazy madness on the planet, when people have lost their heads and their hearts,” she said.
“There is a lot of concern, contradiction and uncertainty.
“I hope to bring a new level of positivity – a chance to reset.”
Childs said her new singles Life and I Believe in You carried messages she believed everybody needed to hear.
“The songs seem to resonate. There is a freshness and wonderful vitality,” she said.
“I want people to walk out of the concert feeling that they needed the music – that this is a chance to feel safe and to have an open heart.”
