ILLEGAL dumping is continuing to plague the Redlands, with new figures revealing ratepayers were slugged $115,000 in 2024 to clean up dumped waste across the city.

Redland City Council says it received 399 requests for investigations into illegal dumping in the 12 months to the end of April 2026, issuing 20 infringement notices as part of ongoing compliance.

The figures come as the number of illegal dumping reports has increased every financial year between 2022-2023 and 2024-2025, with several areas repeatedly targeted by offenders.

Known dumping hotspots include Days Rd in Redland Bay, West Mount Cotton Rd in Sheldon, and Avalon Rd in Sheldon.

Council said illegal dumping was also becoming an issue in new development areas and around charity donation bins.

Green waste remains the most dumped material in Redland City, followed by soil and fill, and household waste.

Council said it was using a range of enforcement measures to tackle the problem, including patrols and strategically placed surveillance cameras in hotspot locations.

The local authority warned serious offenders could face significant penalties, with individual infringement notices reaching as high as $8143.20.

Council has the power to initiate court proceedings for illegal dumping offences.

A Council spokesperson said residents were encouraged to dispose of waste responsibly by using the city’s Recycling and Waste Centres, with information about accepted waste types available on Council’s website.

Commercial operators were also reminded they had the option of using licensed privately managed facilities for disposal of waste.

Council confirmed it had already received Queensland Government support to assist with illegal dumping compliance and enforcement efforts, including funding for surveillance resources.

Residents with information about illegal dumping are being encouraged to report it through the Queensland Government’s online reporting form or by contacting Redland City Council directly on 3829 8999.
