THE Australian Broadcasting Corporation is stepping into the food competition space with Recipe of the Year – a heartfelt new series celebrating the stories behind Australia’s most cherished dishes.

Hosted by Adam Liaw and Pia Miranda, the show will spotlight home cooks from across the country as they share recipes that reflect their heritage, communities and personal journeys.

Produced by i8 Studio, the series goes beyond the plate, exploring the meaning behind the meals – from family traditions to modern interpretations of classic favourites.

Adding a distinctly Australian flavour is the involvement of the Country Women’s Association, whose members will serve as guiding judges. Known for preserving culinary traditions – from jams and chutneys to its iconic scones – the CWA brings both authority and warmth to the competition.

Liaw, who also serves as executive producer, says the series is about more than just cooking.

“Recipes are more than instructions – they tell stories about who we are,” he said.

Miranda described the show as “a warm, lively celebration” of Australia’s diverse food culture, promising a mix of heartfelt storytelling and standout dishes.

ABC Head of Entertainment Rachel Millar labelled the program “a warm hug of a show”, highlighting its focus on community, connection and the shared language of food.

Recipe of the Year is currently in production, with casting previously underway.
