FOR more than three decades, Jan Goetze has been a constant in Redland City’s property landscape, but her story starts long before her first real estate listing.
At just 15, Jan was already learning the fundamentals of sales in her family’s fruit and vegetable business at the Rocklea Markets.
When her father’s health declined, she stepped up, taking over the business at an age when most are still finding their feet.
What followed was nothing short of remarkable.
Jan travelled across Queensland – from Bowen and Bundaberg to Stanthorpe, Toowoomba, Redland Bay and Rochedale – sourcing produce and building relationships in a male-dominated industry where she was, at the time, the only woman doing the job.
“It taught me everything about people, negotiation and resilience,” she said.
That early grounding in business and the art of selling would naturally lead her into real estate, a move that turned into a lifelong passion.
Now, with more than 35 years in the industry – all of it in Redland City – Jan has built a reputation not just on results, but on relationships.
“I love the connections,” she said.
“Helping people through their real estate journey – emotionally and financially – is incredibly rewarding.
“And it’s special to walk down the street and see familiar faces everywhere.”
Her deep local ties mean she’s seen the market evolve through every cycle, and she understands it at a level only time and experience can deliver.
Today, she describes the Redlands and Bayside market as one where stock remains tight, but buyers are more considered.
“People are taking their time and doing extensive research before making a move,” she said.
For sellers, her advice is simple but powerful: presentation and patience.
“First impressions matter, and so does understanding that days on market have extended,” she said.
For buyers trying to break in, she offers a grounded perspective.
“Do your research and don’t overcommit,” she said.
“Factor in everything – stamp duty, legal fees, rates and ongoing costs.
“It’s about making a smart, sustainable decision.”
