Life’s a Challenge: A Poem on Ageing Gracefully
SHARE

It’s the ache or two when getting up, the stiffness in your back,
You shuffle when you walk, takes a while to get on track.
You go to see the doctor, they say you’re doing great,
Here’s another pill to take, now, that makes it eight.

You’re off to see the nurse, lots of questions she does ask,
She asks us all to memorise and perform some little tasks.
Our skin starts getting dryer, so you put on all that cream,
But it doesn’t seem to help that much, maybe we can dream.

Sleep at night alludes us all, we can’t get off to sleep,
Thoughts go round and round our heads, it nearly makes you weep.

Life’s a challenge!

Our hair starts going greyer and thinning out on top,
While other hair keeps growing, it’s very hard to stop.
Age spots start appearing and all those other marks,
Some are small, but deadly, others big or dark.

To fill our time we garden, or go on a shopping spree,
Or to the movies some days, latest are a must to see.
Weeks just seem to fly, many birthdays to attend,
More books to read, too many, I’m going round the bend.

They say that on retiring, that time is hard to fill,
Not so, I say, Oh no! Not another power bill.

Life’s a challenge!

We still have 30 years to fill, every day a little older,
But when those birthdays come around, become a little bolder.
Our eyes may dim, our walk is slow, we feel the cold a little,
It’s even getting hard to hear, the sounds a little brittle.

We used to go to nightclubs and drink a little booze,
Now we stay at home at night and watch the evening news.
We may have problems sometimes, learned a lot through life,
Enjoy each day and live it up, you can’t catch a falling knife.

To end this little poem about how age affects us all,
Remember to enjoy each day, And really have a ball!

Life’s a challenge!
