A Cleveland man has been charged with murder following the death of a three-week-old baby boy at Greenbank.
Logan detectives charged the 25-year-old man on Monday after a lengthy investigation into the child’s death in July 2024.
Police allege the infant was taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital on July 18, 2024, in a critical condition with no obvious external injuries. Despite medical treatment, the child died four days later, on July 22.
Detectives from the Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit and the Child Trauma Unit launched Operation Whiskey Nell to determine the cause of death.
Following what police described as an extensive and protracted investigation, officers recently received results from comprehensive medical examinations, which indicated the child had sustained internal injuries.
Police will allege those injuries were inflicted at a Rosemary Street address in Greenbank.
The man, who was known to the child, was arrested at Cleveland on Monday morning and subsequently charged with one count of murder.
He is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today, February 2.
Investigations remain ongoing.
