Straddievarious owners have taken their gallery to the next level and are encouraging local Indigenous artisans to come forward.

The gallery – located at Cleveland – showcases and sells beautiful works of artists and artisans from North Stradbroke Island, the bay islands and mainland Redland.

Owner Deb McCann and manager Jacquie Holmes started the gallery as a means for local artists to promote and sell their wares on Minjerribah at the Point Lookout Bowls Club, whilst they were living on North Stradbroke Island.

After 12 months, family health issues dictated a return to the mainland where it was decided to take Straddievarious to the next level.

Since 2019, Straddievarious has secured a wonderful space on Raby Bay Harbour and is committed to engaging with the local creative community to showcase and sell local artwork.

The Raby Bay art gallery has had great success with showcasing local Indigenous artists such as Joshua Wawa Jungerboi. Early in 2022, Joshua’s work created a roar of positive public response with 14 out of his 17 artworks sold.

Joshua has since completed public works on behalf of Redland City Council and won the 2023 Redland City Council Australia Day Reconciliation Award.

Straddievarious is currently representing Lionel Doyle who lives in Birkdale.

Lionel’s heritage is Aboriginal Gungarri and is a proud Southeast Queensland Murri, a descendant of Yuggera, Wulli Wulli, Iman, and Yarowair, people.

His works are very spiritual and educational by teaching his peoples’ stories and he has made it his life purpose to teach others of his culture.

Lionel will be featured as an Artist in Residence within the next two months, where the public will be able to meet and interact with him.

Visit Straddievarious on Raby Bay Harbour from Tuesdays through to Sundays.
