SAM Pang has confirmed he will not return as host of the TV WEEK Logie Awards, ending a celebrated three-year run widely credited with revitalising the annual television event.

The comedian revealed he had been approached by Seven Network to host the ceremony again this year, but decided it was the right time to step aside.

“I’ve had three great years, and it was wonderful, but I’m just not going to do it this year,” Pang said.

“It was very amicable. I’m well aware I may never do it again, and whoever does it I’m sure will do a great job, but I just thought three was a nice number.”

Pang first took over hosting duties in 2023 and quickly reshaped the tone of the Logies with a sharper, more self-aware style of comedy that leaned heavily into industry satire, celebrity roasts and jokes aimed at the networks themselves.

His opening monologues became some of the ceremony’s most talked-about moments, regularly generating viral clips and widespread social media attention.

Among the standout lines was his 2023 swipe at his own broadcaster during a discussion about diversity in television.

“Let’s be honest, it’s just great to have an Asian on Channel Seven who isn’t trying to smuggle live birds through border security,” Pang joked during his opening address.

Pang’s willingness to poke fun at the industry became a defining feature of his tenure.

The gamble paid off for Seven, with the 2025 Logies attracting an audience of 1.43 million viewers, making it the highest-rating Logies broadcast since 2012.

Pang’s departure is expected to allow him to focus more heavily on his growing slate of television commitments, including the anticipated return of Sam Pang Tonight later this year.

He also remains a regular on The Front Bar and Have You Been Paying Attention?, while also appearing in upcoming ABC comedy-drama Ground Up.

The move has already intensified speculation that Pang could finally secure a long-awaited Gold Logie nomination in 2026 after years of strong audience support and critical acclaim.

Despite becoming one of the country’s most recognisable television personalities across multiple networks, Pang has never received an individual Logies nomination.

Asked who should replace him as host, Pang suggested fellow comedians Kitty Flanagan and Anne Edmonds would make a strong pairing.

The 66th TV WEEK Logie Awards will air on August 16 on Seven Network and 7plus, with a new host yet to be announced.
