THE Role Of A Lifetime is a series about how to parent in the rapidly changing world, using a sitcom family to play out parenting challenges which are then explored in the real world.

“It is an interesting irony that what children need from their parents to thrive developmentally, socially, emotionally and physically has not changed at all and yet the world around our children and families has significantly changed … t he modern world has become faster, busier and full of enormous choice, and that’s a bit difficult for both children and their parents,” parenting guru Maggie Dent says.

Parenting is arguably the most important job we’ll ever have in our lives, but in today’s rapidly changing world, how do we raise happy, resilient, well-rounded human beings amid a tsunami of complex challenges never faced before this generation?

The advent of the digital age has inundated parents with a vast amount of information, accessible at the touch of a button, creating despair and confusion about how to care for those we love most in the world – our children.

In response to this shifting landscape, a cast of beloved Australian performers and comedians take on The Role Of A Lifetime, attempting to make sense of modern parenting in a ground-breaking, genre-bending new documentary series.

Scripted comedy sketches bring in a bold and distinctive narrative device to the series.

The core cast assume the role of a modern family as they bring to life the most current and urgent parenting problems facing Aussie mums, dads, and caregivers today.

Hosted by television and radio favourite Amanda Keller, and starring Kate Ritchie and Nazeem Hussain as the sitcom parents, they come together to act out real-life parenting scenarios, which propel them into immersive and unexpected factual explorations to guide us in raising resilient, happy children.

THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME Starts February 18, 8.30pm. ABC Iview/TV
