RCMC riders claim podium spots across big weekend of racing

REDLANDS Coast cycling and multisport athletes delivered a strong showing across a packed weekend of competition.

The action on Saturday, April 11 saw riders compete at Muzz Masters, where Simon Phuah powered his way to second place after being launched by a strong lead-out.

Later in the day, riders took on Race 1 of the Queensland Cyclocross Series at the Murarrie criterium track.

Racing in challenging heat, Julie Rappo and Sally McLean represented the club in what proved to be a tough outing for all competitors.

On Sunday, April 12, athletes continued their momentum across multiple events.

At the National Sprint Triathlon on the Gold Coast, Jo Johnson produced a strong performance to claim third place, while Rosemary Kimber battled through a calf injury to finish inside the top 10.

At the Tour de Brisbane, Anne O’Brien delivered another podium result, finishing third on a demanding course featuring a mix of closed city roads, climbs, flats and tunnels.

Several riders also secured qualification honours, with Chris Harvison, Heath Cleary, Neil Makepeace and Steve Alysandratos earning UCI qualification status.

RCMC riders were well represented at the Tour de Brisbane with Ann O’Brien, Ron O’Brien, Mark Coxon, Roger Fearnly, Billy Alder, Chris Harvison, Adam Thompson, Steve Alysandratos, Heath Cleary, Rob Cain and Neil Makepeace all taking part.

The weekend’s results highlighted the club’s depth across multiple disciplines.
