A MAJOR funding boost for Queensland’s State Emergency Service will deliver direct benefits for the Redlands and Bayside region, with the Redland Bay SES Unit set to receive upgraded equipment to strengthen its disaster response capability.

As part of the Government’s 2026 27 Queensland SES Support Grant Program, almost $2.5 million is being invested in new and upgraded SES facilities, backup generators, storage sheds, command buildings and operational vehicles across the state.

A further $875,000 will fast-track the replacement of 12 ageing SES vehicles identified as high priority due to safety concerns.

For Redland Bay, the funding includes $57,520 to upgrade the truck tray and toolbox, an improvement expected to enhance the unit’s ability to respond quickly and safely during storms, floods and search and rescue operations.

Brisbane Regional Director Rick Murdoch said the investment would make a tangible difference to frontline volunteers in the Bayside.

“This additional funding will be used to better equip the facilities and ensure groups are well supported in disaster preparedness and response, to help the local community when it needs it most,” he said.

“Whether it’s storms, floods, or search and rescue operations, the Redland Bay Unit is ready to respond safely and effectively when disasters strike.”

Queensland Police and Emergency Services Minister Dan Purdie said the grants were part of a broader effort to rebuild SES capability after years of strain.

“Every Queenslander relies on our SES volunteers when disaster strikes, and we’re making sure they have the facilities, vehicles and equipment they need to keep communities safe,” he said.

The SES has recorded a rise in volunteer numbers to 5555 statewide, reversing a long term decline.

Acting Chief Officer Danny Baade said the upgrades would improve safety and operational capability across Queensland.

For the Redlands and Bayside community, one of the State’s most disaster prone coastal corridors, the funding will hopefully mean stronger local resilience, better equipped volunteers, and faster response times.
