The festive season on Redlands Coast arrived with a sparkle on the weekend as large crowds gathered at Raby Bay Harbour Park, Cleveland for the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree.
Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the Council-led event, held on Friday and Saturday evening, brought together people from across the city and beyond to enjoy a range of free festive activities and entertainment.
“The Lighting of the Redlands Coast Christmas Tree continues to be a fantastic occasion for our community, and a wonderful way to usher in the festive season,” the Mayor said.
“Highlights across the two nights included carols performed live on stage by local talent, a festive movie in the park, carousel rides, and free photos with Santa.
“I congratulate everyone involved in the event, including the performers, supporters and our Council teams, for helping to make the start of the festive season extra special for our community.
“This includes our event supporters, Mirusia Productions, McGrath and Raby Bay Harbour.”
The Mayor said the lighting of the tree was just a taste of what was to come over the next four weeks as part of Council’s Christmas on Redlands Coast program for 2025.
“We are once again spreading festive cheer far and wide, with events and activities being held across both our mainland and island communities,” the Mayor said.
“This includes a festive flick on Russell Island, lighting installations, augmented reality experiences, and a Christmas colouring competition.
“There will also be festive events at Council venues, plus a wide range of activities and events organised by community groups, schools and churches.
“There are so many opportunities between now and Christmas to come together, celebrate and find that special gift for a friend or loved one – and it’s all available right here on Redlands Coast.”
The Mayor also encouraged the community to embrace the season of giving by donating to her inaugural Christmas Appeal, which remains open until midnight on Christmas Eve.
“The appeal has been initiated to support charitable organisations who do great work in our community, and who play a vital role in helping those in need,” the Mayor said.
“This year’s appeal partners, selected following an expression of interest process, are Meals on Wheels Brisbane South and Redland Community Centre.
“All financial donations received between now and Christmas Eve will go directly towards assisting locals experiencing or at risk of homelessness, domestic and family violence, and other hardship.
“Council is also proud to again be supporting the STAR Secret Santa appeal for seniors by providing drop-off points for the donation of goods at Victoria Point, Cleveland and Capalaba Libraires.
