QUEENSLAND councils have fallen to sixth place nationally for community satisfaction with residents marking local government down as reports of potholes, rubbish, parking and infrastructure issues continue to climb.

The 2026 Snap Send Solve Community Satisfaction Index gave Queensland a score of 59.2 out of 100 — down 1.8 points on 2025 and below the national average of 59.6.

The state ranked sixth of eight states and territories, ahead of only New South Wales on 58.5 and the ACT on 54.5.

Twenty-nine Queensland councils qualified for the index, which combines 251,621 real-time ratings from app users with 17,151 survey responses collected in May and June.

Logan City Council topped the Queensland rankings with a score of 62.9, climbing eight places from ninth last year.

Burdekin Shire Council was second on 62.2, followed by Fraser Coast Regional Council on 61.9, Brisbane City Council on 61.7 and Sunshine Coast Regional Council on 61.5.

Other Queensland councils to make the state’s top 10 were Gladstone Regional Council, South Burnett Regional Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Bundaberg Regional Council and Toowoomba Regional Council.

Townsville City Council was named the nation’s most improved council, lifting its score by 7.1 per cent from 54.6 in 2025 to 58.5 this year.

Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto credited faster processing, improved monitoring and closer work with operational teams for the result.

“One of the biggest improvements has been reducing the time to process and action Snap Send Solve reports to just two to three business days,” he said.

Queensland’s five metro councils recorded an average score of 60.0, down just 0.2 points, while the 24 regional councils averaged 59.1 after a sharper 2.2-point fall.

But the nation’s best-performing councils were concentrated interstate.

Victoria’s Maroondah City Council topped the national rankings with a score of 66.3, ahead of the City of Melville in Western Australia on 66.2.

The City of Mandurah in Western Australia, Whitehorse City Council in Victoria and the City of Marion in South Australia shared third place on 66.1.

Other councils to make the national top 10 were Boroondara City Council, Victoria; City of Port Adelaide Enfield, South Australia; Camden Council, New South Wales; Manningham Council, Victoria; and Randwick Council, New South Wales.

South Australia was Australia’s highest-rated state or territory, averaging 61.2, followed by Tasmania and Western Australia on 61.0.

More than 1.7 million reports were sent to authorities through Snap Send Solve in the year to June 2026 — up 15.6 per cent.

Reports about roads and signage rose 27.1 per cent, water and sewer problems climbed 25.6 per cent, rubbish and bins increased 23.3 per cent, and tree-related reports were up 17.3 per cent.

Snap Send Solve chief executive Danny Gorog said the national decline reflected frustration over both the condition of public spaces and the speed of council responses.

“Councils who engage closely with residents and act quickly to resolve what they’re reporting are among those that perform best,” he said.

The index did not publicly list a result for Redland City Council, with individual councils to receive their own performance data directly.
